Bones, which make up the skeleton, are composed of cells embedded in hard intracellular material known as the matrix ; made of mineralized substances and collagen fibers. Bones provide structural support, protect soft body parts e.g., the brain ; , serve as protected sites for specialized tissues e.g., bone marrow ; , and act as reservoirs of essential minerals calcium and phosphates ; . Like all body tissues, bones are in a continuous state of flux. The mechanical integrity of the skeleton and the maintenance of appropriate bone mineral levels depend on a dynamic process called bone remodeling. Bone remodeling, or turnover, involves two contrasting events: resorption destruction and assimilation ; of bone tissue by osteoclast cells and formation of bone tissue by osteoblast cells. The resorption of bone tissue allows calcium and phosphates stored in bones to enter the bloodstream as needed to maintain an array of physiologic functions, such as blood coagulation clotting ; , interneuronal nerve ; transmission, and cell membrane permeability allowing free passage of fluids ; . Bone formation acts as a replacement mechanism for bone tissue lost to resorption. Approximately 15% of bone in healthy adults is replaced by turnover each year.
MEDICAL TREATMENT Dr. Roland Brandt About a year and a half before her alleged work-related injury, Plaintiff went to Dr. Roland Brandt with complaints of left hip and upper buttock pain. This was on June 12, 2002, a few weeks after Plaintiff was using a rototiller and developed discomfort and continuing pain in that area. She continued to work in her job as a bartender, but experienced significant discomfort. She walked with an antalgic gait. There was tenderness over the trochanteric area and the sacroiliac region on the left side. An x-ray showing the pelvis and hip was negative. Dr. Brandt diagnosed 1 ; Lumbar strain and 2 ; Left trochanteric bursitis. Dr. Brandt injected the trochanteric bursa and recommended that she apply ice at home. Common Ground Sanctuary Approximately one year prior to her work injury and one month before she started working for Defendant, Plaintiff appeared at Common Ground Sanctuary requesting services. The admission note on December 18, 2002, stated, "Feels stressed, shakey [sic], can't work, head, neck & back hurts can't sleep, depressed will fully assess." At the emergency psychiatric assessment, the presenting symptoms were listed as follows, "Can't work, marital problems, husbands [sic] alcoholic constant headache stressed depressed." She could not fall asleep or stay asleep. She had a depressed appetite. She denied substance abuse. She used alcohol and had 8 to 9 beers the prior Sunday. She last used cocaine 8 years prior. She had been physically abused by her husband. She worked 11 years at a bar until she quit in August 2002. Plaintiff presented as shaky and depressed. She had no psychiatric history. She worked for 11 years and was able to purchase a home and vehicle. She quit work because her husband of six months wanted her to. He does not work. They are financially strapped. My concern is that this memory state information particularly the neurotransmitter concentration levels ; may not be retained by current methods. However, this is testable right now. We don't have to wait 40 to 50 years to find this out. I think it should be a high priority to do this experiment on a mouse brain as I suggested above for animal lovers, we could use a sick mouse ; . You appear to be alluding to a somewhat different approach, which is to extract the "LTM, " which is likely to be a far more compact structure than the thousands of trillions of bytes represented by the connection and neurotransmitter patterns CNP ; . As I discuss below, I agree that the LTM is far more compact. However, we are not extracting an efficient LTM during cryopreservation, so the only way to obtain it during cryo reanimation would be to retain its inefficient representation in the CNP. You bring up some interesting and important issues when you wrote, "Regarding my toe-based reconstruction scenario, this is indeed no better than genetically-based reconstruction together with loading of more-or-less default skills and memories--corresponding to a peculiar but profound state of amnesia. My point was merely that even this worst-case outcome is still what modern medicine would label a success: the patient walks out the door in good health." I agree that this would be feasible by the time reanimation is feasible. The means for "loading" these "default skills and memories" is likely to be along the lines that I described above, to use "a learning and maturing experience for this brain in which the usual 20 odd years were sped up to 20 days or less." Since the human brain as currently designed does not allow for explicit "loading" of memories and skills, these attributes need to be gained from experience using the brain's self-organizing approach. Thus we would have to use this type of experience-based approach. Nevertheless, the result you describe could be achieved. We could even include in these "loaded" or learned ; "skills and memories, " the memory of having been the original person who was cryonically suspended, including having made the decision to be suspended, having become ill, and so on and diamicron, for example, clobetasol propionate.

51. Midwifery model of care needs to be more inclusive diverse and not regulated. 52. Rural remote maternity care can and should be continued and studied NOT closed down. 53. Need to form alliances, strengthen relationships now during this time of opportunity, given the people who are currently in positions of power influence. Move toward collaboration now, to be proactive in pursuing relationships and support wherever we find it. 54. Protect the resources we already have. There is much to do, we need to find resources to support our work and goals so that we don't overuse, stress, lose precious resources-i.e., midwives. 55. Provincial associations and colleges of midwives need to respond to the need for change expressed by participants. Change is necessary now. 56. Midwifery practice needs to be expanded and a larger vision implemented soon. The present course that midwifery is on is not serving midwives, the health care system, and ultimately women. 57. It is time to create and manifest a larger vision of midwifery in Canada and detail what it will look like, how to get there, what is needed, and time lines. 58. The provincial government has provided an opportunity for midwifery to re-evaluate its status as it stands and how it will fit into the evolving health care system. 59. How to help midwifery to become a sustainable career lifestyle? ; for an aging membership while and or until the number of midwives increases. What models will optimize satisfaction of women and midwives, while maintaining optimal outcomes? 60. The need to be creative in ways to maintain the sustainability of the profession by: a variety of call schedules; safety of number of hours worked; change active practice; and encourage not only "clinical" midwives but also teachers, administration, and researchers. 61. Remove barriers thus making it easier for midwives to enter the profession, e.g., flexibility with the model, change of continuity of care requirement.

February 4-8 is National Consumer Awareness Week. In conjunction with the National Association of Attorneys General, the Nevada Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection will send out a daily press release designed to increase consumer awareness of a particular subject. This year's theme is consumer privacy. ATTORNEY GENERAL WARNS CONSUMERS ABOUT PROTECTING THEIR PRIVACY WHEN USING THE INTERNET Carson City -- Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa advises Nevada consumers that although using the Internet is an increasingly popular method to obtain information or to make purchases, consumers need to be aware that Internet sites are not just used to distribute information and products: they can also be used to collect information about users. This can be as innocuous as search engines that use the topic of a search in order to select ads for display, or as sinister as selling your personal information for a profit without your consent. "The issue here is the same as with any form of commerce." Del Papa said. "In order for the buyer to beware, he or she must be aware." It is important for consumers to understand that every time they provide any personal information on a web site, that information is often placed in a database that could be sold to a third party for telemarketing or other sales purposes. The Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection offers the following tips for consumers to remember when using the Internet: Deal only with established, reputable retailers. An impressive looking Internet site or e-mail solicitation does not guarantee that the retailer is legitimate. By "e-shopping" at stores with whom you are familiar, the risk of being a victim of Internet fraud may be lessened.
